Caravan heads to Europe

T.REST and Hodry presents unique inventions of Russian mechanisms of transformation to European customers.

20/04/2017

In the middle of 2016 Russian company T.REST started to deliver mechanisms produced in-house under the MEIS brand to Europe. Austrian brand Hodry became their partner and participant of the export project. This year products of the Russian brand MEIS are displayed on Hodry’s stand at interzum trade fair.

We managed to secure a strong international partner for entering the new highly competitive market,” — Dmitry Chesnokov, T.REST Head of Components Department and MEIS Director, says. “Hodry is a company with good history and well-deserved reputation. This is important, because on the European market of mechanisms for soft furniture it is trust to the company and its products that are of crucial importance. We know that it takes years to form relations between suppliers and clients, and European furniture producers are reluctant when it comes to changing partners.

MEIS has more than 10 years of experience of development and production of mechanisms of transformation. MEIS production site, located in the Moscow region, is equipped with automatic lines of stamping, welding and painting, is characterized by high level of automation.

“We can produce inexpensive products in big quantities,” — Mr. Chesnokov says. “We also manufacture made-to-order mechanisms for factories. Our in-house design-engineering department helps to create individual designs.”

MEIS product range includes traditional mechanisms, as well as original patented designs. Patents protected by the company is a guarantee that future European partners will be protected from counterfeit mechanisms.

MEIS’s popular invention is Caravan mechanism, allowing to unfold a sofa in one move in the air without the danger of catching the carpet, and forming a large ergonomical sleeping place. Caravan is a metal-framed construction, consisting of frame seat, cylinder shell, frames of middle and lower part, frame of the back and frame of side bars with hooks for installing arm rests, as well as lower connecting bar of side bars. Left and right parts of the mechanism are connected by a synchronizer for operational stability. “Using our mechanisms, you have a lot of options for creating sofa designs,” — Mr. Chesnokov says.

Another interesting invention from MEIS are space saving systems. There are eight basic designs of such systems, they are created in the framework of a special program, which includes production of frames, side bars, installment of shock-absorbers. The product range includes simple frontless mechanisms for sliding doors wardrobe as well as mechanisms of full-value double wardrobe beds with ventilation function, special locks, providing children’s safety, electromotor with remote control. These mechanisms are easy to assemble. Apart from basic designs, MEIS manufacture exclusive products from this line.

Special attention is paid to safety in mechanisms use. “We meet European safety standards, — Maxim Frolov, T.REST’s chief specialist. — If there is a question regarding the use of our System of space economy line abroad, I am sure everything will be fine. Issues may arise only when it comes to certificates of bodyframe, which we do not produce.”

MEIS is working on mechanisms for two-tier beds and mechanisms with electric drive systems. In Russia, the owner of MEIS production company, T.REST, is the dealer of such trademarks as Stalmot (Poland), Leggett&Platt (USA), LOIUDICE (Italy), COMODO (Italy) and Hettich (Germany).
