One hundred years young

The biggest Russian leather manufacturerhas reached the age of 100.

At the end of May Russkaya Kozha / the Ryazan Tannery had a huge celebration of their triple anniversary: the 100th anniversary of factory’s founding, the 30th anniversary of the ultramodern factory complex that was put into service in 1986 and the 20th anniversary of JSC “Russkaya Kozha”, the biggest European company of its type. The Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev has sent the Ryazan leatherworkers his congratulations.

Today Ryazan Tannery accounts for 35% of genuine leather production in Russia; 48% of commodity output is being exported to European and Asian countries. As to furniture leather, Ryazan factory has been realizing the import substitution and, according to the company’s own estimates, it accounts for the lion’s share of the Russian leather industry.

Scales of production of “Russkaya kozha” can be undoubtedly called colossal: a total area of the factory buildings in Ryazan is 480 thousand sq. m.

“There are at most ten factories like our in the whole world”, — says Igor Surin, Group’s Chairman of the Board. “Leather manufacturing companies usually focus on the one particular line of business. We are trying, on the contrary, to embrace all branches of industry”. Along with the Ryazan factory, “Russkaya kozha” group also includes two modern foreign manufacturing sites – Union for Leather, Spain, and BKS Leather Ltd, China. At present, a new tannery is being built up in Zarinsk, city in Altai Krai.
